Vertical LED chip

The Vertical LED (VLED) is excellent for high power applications in comparison to lateral LED. VLED has many benefits ; higher power, efficiency, less current crowding, better light extraction and better heat sinking.

Vertical LED process

  • Bond 2nd substrate ; using high electrical and heat conductive material.

The core technologies of vertical LED are substrate removal, bonding 2nd conductive substrate, reflective metal deposition, surface treatment to improve light extraction.
The main applications are street and indoor light, flash, Automobile head light and traffic signal.

Benefits of Vertical LED

Improving light extraction efficiency

20% of light generating in MQW penetrates sapphire substrate so removing substrate and attaching high reflective electrode can reduce that optical loss.

High heat sinking

Thermal conductivity of sapphire substrate is poor compared to metal substrate. 2nd conductive metal substrate leads high heat sinking. It induces higher efficiency and longer life time on high power operation.

Better current spreading

P-type GaN has a high resistance compared to n type GaN. P-type GaN on vertical LED is contacted to entire surface by metal substrate. It induces better current spreading and higher light extraction efficiency. its radiant flux is higher than conventional LED.
